My first custom keyboard
For years I used to use the IKB C-104 keyboard with brown switches. I was pretty confident that this keeb was the best choice ever. However, I was starting to notice that it was pretty big and cumbersome. So, I made a decision to try something new and smaller.
There are different keyboard sizes. Each of the size has its own has advantages and disadvantages.
For various reasons, I finally choose the 80% TKL. To make sure that that was the right choice, I bought a cheap Ziyoulang K87 just to test this size out. It turned out to be a good choice. The keyboard is pretty solid and have pleasant to touch keycaps. I was so excited about this keyboard
In the pictures you can see the process of applying different modding techniques to this keyboard.
In addition, I never used linear (red) switches; I used to use the brown switches. The red switches feel kind of strange, but I'm getting used to them.
Updated (07.2024): Looking ahead, this keyboard didn’t become my daily driver. On the other hand, I use it during coding dojos and it feels great. So, if you want to try it – just find me on the other coding dojo event.
